Whoopi Goldberg is getting into the marijuana business. The award-winning actress has partnered with Maya Elisabeth, a marijuana entrepreneur, to launch a line a products that help treat menstrual symptoms in women.
The company, which is named Maya & Whoopi, plans to have a line of edibles, tinctures, topical rubs and a THC-infused bath soak.
“For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort,” Goldberg told Vanity Fair. “Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work.”
“This, you can put it in your purse,” Goldberg said. “You can put the rub on your lower stomach and lower back at work, and then when you get home, you can get in the tub for a soak or make tea, and it allows you to continue to work throughout the day.”
The idea definitely isn’t a bad one, especially since nowadays the stigma of being a marijuana user has gone from “Oh, you’re a stoner,” to “Does that weed candy come in cherry?”
Business is booming in states where weed is legal. And in the case of products catering to women, I’m quite sure it’ll help those with debilitating cramps.
“Hey, this niche is half the population on the earth,” Goldberg said “This seems to be people flippantly blowing you off, which is what you get whenever you start talking about cramps. They weren’t thinking how do you target this? I have grown granddaughters who have severe cramps, so I said this is what I want to work on.”
The company says what separates the Maya & Whoopi line from other products is the fact that it’ll only include cannabidiol (CBD), which takes away the high feeling.
Maya & Whoopi products go on sale in April, and will only be available in California.
